A tear eyed mother watches her son battle for his life, as she looks up to the doctor for a sign of hope he shares with her a common belief “now...” he says, “its all in God’s hands”. On any big day, like an examination or interview ,after we feel we have reached our limit of attempt we look up to an unknown power of god who we believe is with us in everything. A source of encouragement, love, courage, strength, hope, guidance is what we find in god.
But then who or what is this god?? Is it some kind of superior being controlling all of us or a state of mind achieved by those only learned??
I believe in either. God to me is nothing more than myself. It would be untrue if I say god is in us...instead I choose to say god is us
The life with in us, the actions we do, the love that exists between us is what defines god to me.
But as humans, I believe we have never had the courage to act upon our on accord...we have always and will always need a controlling, motivating force to lead us forward and help us distinguish between the so called right and wrong. This is why we created god...to ease our burdens and always feel assured against loneliness.
The Rig Veda, the first of the four Vedas in its creation hymn (nasadiya) 10.129 raises an unanswerable question about the coming of this universe.
It quotes “who really knows? Who will proclaim it? Whence was it produced? Whence is this creation? The gods came afterwards, with the creation of this universe. Who then knows whence it has arisen?
Whence this creation has arisen-perhaps it formed itself, or perhaps it did not- the one who looks down on it, in the highest heaven, only knows- or perhaps he does not know either.”
The last line of this paradox verse completely mortifies me. It questions the existence of not only god but also of the universe.
As a conclusion I would like to talk about life without god!
Now thousands of lives have been lost in wars between people of different faith. The thought of man slaughter in the name of holiness, I believe, would not appeal to any god!
But then why do we continue to bring differences where there are none? ... If only we could accept the truth and lead a more peaceful life.
But on a contradicting side, a thought came to me when I witnessed an incident in my life.
A person very close to me who had lost everything and was leading a lonely life cried out her sorrows to me. At the end when as I comforted her...she told me something that got me thinking she would never be lonely she said...when she could trust in god, he would give her the strength to move forward.
This is what made me realize how many people are living strongly and living only on faith. If to convince them that there most prized possession is falsity it would be like taking away from them their whole life. We have created everything to live on... we created our own path, our own life and most importantly our own reason to live. We created god to help us in each step, a creation that is both holding our lives together and destroying so many other things. At the end of it we just cultivated a movement so strong ....that being the Religion of GOD!!
